Your Afloat

Helps you navigate the highs and lows

Income comes in tides. Afloat shows how many months you can keep paying yourself through the ups and downs, and colours the whole app to match.

Running low Building Healthy Ramping up
How it works

Four moves. Then calm.

Afloat sits on top of the ups and downs and runs one simple, steadying loop.

01

Log your income

Log each deposit as it lands. Afloat instantly splits it into a tax reserve, an optional savings slice, and your spendable buffer.

02

Pay yourself

Draw a fixed amount from the buffer on your own schedule: weekly, twice a month, or monthly. Steady take-home, however lumpy the month.

03

Give it a job

What you draw arrives as Ready to Assign. Spread it across envelopes with targets, and whatever is left over carries into next month.

Watch your runway: the one number that tells you how many months your buffer can keep paying you. Colour-coded, always a glance away.

The envelope budget

Give every amount a job

What you pay yourself arrives as Ready to Assign, and you spread it across envelopes you name. Real zero based budgeting: monthly targets, leftovers that carry into next month, and credit cards that set their own cash aside so the card can always be paid in full.

Due dates

Know what's due before more money arrives

An envelope can say when its money has to be there: weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly, on a day of the month, a weekday, or the last day. Afloat measures every one of them against your next payday, because when income is irregular the calendar month is the wrong unit.

A yearly bill gets saved up for a slice at a time. Fund $1,200 at $100 a month and you are hitting the target perfectly, and still $900 short in the month it actually leaves. Afloat counts both, and does the division for you.

Income splitting

Steer your pay before it drifts into spending

Afloat helps manage your income. Every deposit is broken down the moment it lands: tax, savings, and spendable buffer. Set your percentages once and the app calculates the split automatically.

Spendable buffer

Reimbursements, refunds, gifts and support skip tax entirely, because money coming back was never income. Turn savings off any time. It's your split.
Income buffering

The habit that keeps you afloat

Don't spend income as it lands. Fill your Spendable Buffer, and pay yourself a steady amount from that. Pick monthly, twice a month, or weekly, and Afloat counts down to each payday.

The switch

Every budget needs a steady number. Afloat makes yours.

Other apps hand you the envelopes and assume the same amount lands every month. Afloat hands you both: deposits split themselves as they arrive, you pay yourself a set amount out of the buffer, and that steady amount is what the envelopes divide.

Everything a budgeting app does, on income a budgeting app can’t plan for.

Switching? Bring your budget with you. Afloat reads a CSV from another app, recognises the common layouts, transaction registers and monthly budget exports alike, and shows you the plan before it applies it. Nothing is merged silently.
